SuccessMaker Enterprise (SME) is a server-based application which offers supplemental instruction in English, language arts, math, science, and social studies. It’s a comprehensive curriculum allowing teachers to teach to every student’s level. It is widely used at the district's seven elementary schools and both middle schools. Each teacher and student are provided unique logon ID, so that student progress may be tracked, and so that teachers can manage their classes.
Client Install:
(authored by Jim Austin, 12/14/09)
Rick has set up an install ID for SME. Here are the steps:
1) log on with user ID = SME and password = P@ssw0rd
2) hit next
3) if SME is not on the machine already, it will install and then require you to hit finish and then it will shutdown.
If it is installed, it will go straight to finish.

Occasional Absense of QuickTime:
Some machines will report during install that "QuickTime" must be installed, or was not detected. My advice (Bill here) is to allow the SME install to complete itself and automatically reboot the machine. Back at the login screen, login as yourself (so that you have admin. privileges), and go to the website, http://quicktimime.com.
Download and install the free version that does not include iTunes (no need to provide an email address. I generally desect the boxes that offer to create desktop shortcuts and/or automatically search for updates)

Occassional Failure to Launch Installer:
Sometimes, when following the "Client Install" instructions above, the Pearson installer may fail to launch (error codes vary, but in my experience, it appears that the drive letter "O:" may be unavailable as a network drive on the machine). Here's a possible work-around:
1. Allow the install to fail and automatically reboot the machine. Back at the login screen, login as yourself (so that you have admin privileges).
2. Double-click the "My Computer" icon, and see if you have a local drive with the letter "O" (perhaps a "Removable Disk"). If so, this drive must be either removed or assigned a different letter,as SME needs to be able to map the letter O available for both the install and operation of SME (and this cannot happen if the letter is use locally). If you've determined that the leter O is being used locally, go to the Control Panel, then Administrative Tools, and lastly "Computer Management". Under the heading of "Storage" locate and double-click "Disk Management". Scrool down on the right until you see the "O:" drive. Right click on it, and choose "Change Drive Letter and Paths", then "Change...". MY recommendation is to change the drive letter to Q, only because to my knowledge it is not used as a mapped drive in the elementary schools (feel free to offer an alternative suggestion).
3. Log out as yourself, and back in as "SME"/P@ssword, and I expect the installer (and application) will run as expected.
